Dear Parents/ Carers,
The weeks are whizzing by, there’s a nip in the air, the Christmas tree is ordered so I think we can safely say ‘it’s is beginning to feel a lot like Christmas’! Year 6 travelled to the Lyric theatre to enjoy the pantomime Aladdin. It was as topical as ever and packed full of everyone’s panto favourites!
Hopefully, this evening, you will be enjoying a bottle of the finest Beaujolais with a slither of saucisson – I think I may join you!

Year 5 Class Assembly
Last week, Mr McInroy’s Year 5 class delighted us with their class assembly based around myths and legends. They were superb and literally left us with a tear in our eyes with their final hymn. They were so confident and loved performing for the school and their families. Well done!
Year 4 Class Assembly
This week, it was the turn of Mr Perry’s Year 4 class to astound us with their class assembly. They took us on a whistle stop tour of the Anglo-Saxons, Romans and the list goes on! They finished with a magnificent performance of Beowulf complete with a little jive dance! A wonderful assembly enjoyed by all.
Christmas Jumper day
On Thursday 9th December, we will be having a non-uniform day/ Christmas jumper day in aid of the FOSS Christmas Fair. Children may wear non-uniform clothes and, in return, we would like all children to bring either:
- A bottle for the adult tombola – e.g. wine, spirits, juice, shampoo, sauce etc, or
- A jar full of goodies like hair clips and bands, marbles, crafty things, little toys, sweets etc.
Children can decorate the jar if they wish. If you opt for sweets, please check the packet – to ensure there are no hidden nuts or sesame seeds.
All jars and bottles will be used for the tombola during the Christmas Fair on Saturday 11th December. Please place donations outside the office in the boxes provided on the day.
Author Day
Christopher Lloyd, historian and non-fiction author, and Fiona Lumbers, illustrator of ‘Luna Loves’ and the ‘Clem and Crab’ series, wowed us all with hands-on talks: while 50 years on, the younger children saw Mr Benn magically appear from the fancy dress shop! Daunt Books held a fabulous book sale and thank you to everyone who bought a book.
St Stephen’s by the Sea – a word from Hattie
Please save the date – June 24th – 26th 2022 – for an Isle of Wight camping trip with sponsored walk.
Basic info:
- This is a family event so all children must be supervised by parents / guardians at all times.
- This is a designated school trip so those who wish to take part will be able to use the Friday for a travel day.
- The idea is to camp together at Compton Farm right on the coast but hotels and b&b’s are available.
- There will be a 12km sponsored walk from Compton Farm to The Needles on the Saturday.
- There will be a celebratory bbq and other jolly activities.
- It might rain but it will be a lot of fun!
What to do:
1) Contact Compton Farm directly to book your campsite pitch or static caravan. A campsite pitch is £22.50 per night, a caravan is £90 per night. For a pitch you will need all your own camping gear.

Anna at Compton Farm is available to answer any questions and has kindly agreed to reduce to a minimum 2 night stay as opposed to 3 nights. Although there is so much to do on the island you may want to make the most of it. We advise booking as soon as possible.

House Captain Quiz and Bingo Zoom and word from Kit in Year 6
Hi, it’s the house captains here and we would like to inform you about the Quiz/ Bingo Zoom on Wednesday the 15th at 6:00pm. There will be a number of fun Christmas-related games including bingo, guess the celebrity, scavenger hunts and much more. The money raised from ticket purchases will help support our 3 charities which are: TerraCycle (a charity which helps to recycle the plastic in the oceans), Great Ormond Street, (a charity which helps the children saving hospital, Great Ormond Street) and finally Afghan Welcome (which supports new arrivals from Afghanistan).The rest of the money will go towards the Year 6’s trip to the Water Park during their school journey to Spain. More information regarding purchasing tickets to follow next week.

The Great St Stephen’s Drinks Party – 9th December
The Great St Stephen’s Drinks Party on Thursday 9th December from 7.30pm onwards. This event is organised by the school and is an opportunity for us to say thank you for being such amazing parents. This is the perfect community event where you won’t have to be in charge of a stall, answer numerous questions or buy a raffle ticket! It’s all about the festive cheer, Christmas music and Cookie’s stupendous spread (“he’s so Northern at times” I hear you say!)
The House Captains will be on hand to serve the nibbles and collect any donations for their chosen charities and their Year 6 trip. The House Captains will be working with Cookie to prepare the most delicious canapés and of course one of Cookie’s delicious hams – though get there early as Mr Perry is in charge of slicing the ham and is rather partial to it (one slice for you and two for me!) There will be a cash bar to get the festive banter flowing.
Second-hand uniform sale!
Wednesday, 1st December at 3.25pm and 5pm in the main drop-off/pick up area of the school
