A Friday Night Round Up from Mr Schumm
Good afternoon
It’s always good to start the week with Collective Worship packed with 2 vicars, 2 curates and even a Bishop thrown into the mix! On Monday morning, the new Bishop of Kensington, Emma Ineson, joined us for Collective Worship and spoke incredibly highly of our wonderful, confident and highly enthusiastic children. As part of a programme with the London Diocese, we welcomed two curates into the school for the week – Joe and Chris. They took part in Collective Worship with Dennis and spent time in the classrooms – Chris and I taught an RE lesson, in Miss Whiting’s class, on the Easter Story and he was really impressed with the children’s knowledge and how well they worked together as a class.
Thank you again to those parents who came along to meet Jessie on Tuesday evening. Jessie shared her vision for the school kitchen, including making our own bread and cheese – I feel a St Stephen’s Brie coming on! A quick reminder that clubs before school start at 8am and children need to be here for 8am and not any earlier as there is no supervision on site at that time in the morning. The same applies for Yr1 – Yr6’s 8.45 am soft start – children should arrive at school for 8.45am not any earlier as there is no one available to supervise them. We do have a breakfast club that runs from 7.30am every morning, which is available to all children – please email the school office if you are interested in booking a place.
When the Saints go Marching In
On Thursday, Mrs Allen’s Year 1 class delighted us with a spectacular class assembly all about Saints. We had perfect loud voices, knights in shining armour, great songs and even a dancing dragon! The hall was packed with parents and the children acted their hearts out. Amazing!
Spring has Sprung!
Thank you for all our amazing daffodils – Penny Pocock ,from the Children’s Flower Society, was our judge and she was really impressed by all the entries. The winners will be announced soon but, for now, keep growing!
Mums and Chums Breakfast
Please join us for a celebration breakfast in honour of those special women in our children’s lives on Friday, 17th March at 8am in the main school hall. Jesse & her team will be cooking up the most scrumptious breakfast treats and the faithful buckets will be on hand for much appreciated donations. Tickets are available on Parentmail book now.
Strike Action
Our aim is to be open on Wednesday and Thursday – do please be aware that some classes may not be following their usual curriculum on those days.
Anyone for Tag Rugby?
Our Year 5 did an amazing job of winning our friendly match against Wetherby Prep with superb skill, positivity and excellent sportsmanship. They were perfect St Stephen’s role models and had a great time.
Maggie’s
Last year Ms Kaz went through some cancer treatment and was under the care of Maggie’s – a charity support group relying entirely on donations. Her husband, and our very own St Stephen’s dad, Rich Hall is doing a charity gig at Bush Hall to raise money for Maggie’s. Tickets on sale at www.bushhallmusic.co.uk
Year 1 at Hyde Park
Year 1 absolutely loved their visit to The Look Out Discovery Centre in Hyde Park on Monday. The children had to explore Hyde Park looking for different types of flowers and plants. They also learnt about what seeds need in order to grow. The absolute highlight of the trip though, was planting their own seed in a biodegradable pot they made themselves!
Year 5 at The V&A
Today, Year 5 had a superb school trip to the Victoria and Albert Museum for a workshop, where the children were testing and developing ideas, printmaking and exploring drawing and creative processes to formulate an idea – as you do! They had a wonderful time and thoroughly enjoyed their workshops.

Auction Night
I am dusting off my gavel and practising my vocal exercises in readiness for the most amazing Auction Night possible! Please do join us and help to raise some much needed funds for our school! If you don’t fancy making a bid, come and sweep up with me at the end for a spot of sparkling banter! Over to Linda for more information (anyone got / or know someone who has got a second home in England they fancy putting forward as an auction item?)
If you haven’t bought your ticket yet for St Stephen’s Auction night, please do! Tickets are available now on ParentMail. Tickets are £20 or a table is £160 (seats 8).
We are planning a fun night for you! On arrival you will get a welcome drink and there will be canapes while you chat with friends and browse the auction lots, all while listening to some live music. The main meal will be served at your tables followed by pudding later in the evening.
Even if you aren’t tempted by any of the bids (although we think you will as we some amazing lots so far – more on that later), please come along and support our wonderful school and FOSS.
So far, these are just some of the amazing lots that have been kindly donated:
· A stay in a luxury family chalet with lake & mountain views in Iseltwald, Switzerland.
· Two nights in an apartment in Turin, Northern Italy.
· Bespoke 3 course fine dining meal for two, cooked by a chef who has worked in Michelin starred restaurants – cooked in the comfort of your own home.
· Harry Potter Wand.
· First signed edition print, framed, by London based artist Tommy Penton.
· Chef experience day at Andrew Edmunds restaurant in Soho.
This is just a little taster – we have more incredible donations – all will be listed in the week before so you can preview all lots before the night and decide what you want to bid on! A huge thank you to those that have been in touch with me already – you’re amazing!
