A Friday Night Round Up and Some Dates from Mr Schumm!
Good afternoon,
Welcome back to everyone and what amazing weather we have been greeted with at the start of the school year – just a shame we didn’t have some of this during the summer break!
In collective worship this week we talked about new beginnings and how the start of the school year is a perfect time to think about things we would like to improve on and changes we can make, as it is a new bright year stretching before us and anything is possible- please remind me of this when it is the end of the school year and sports day, the school production, leavers events are upon us, in that rather exciting but hectic last few weeks! But I am getting ahead of myself.
I hope you all had good summers whether travelling or having a staycation. My family managed to get some sunshine and then spent a few exciting days in Middlesbrough my home town. ‘Exciting’ and ‘Middlesbrough’ may not naturally go together, but never the less the rain held off, my wife Rachel didn’t get too bored with my reminiscing about my home town and we managed to buy a car – thank you Mr ULEZ!
The new Nursery and Reception children have settled into school really well, obviously a few tears, but Miss Quartermaine has stopped now! Children were all looking so smart in their uniforms and bright eyed and eager to start – some of them may not have quite realised they will be coming back on Monday.
On the uniform note, a quick reminder that it is black school shoes that must be worn unless it is a PE day. If in doubt check out the following link for all the relevant information – https://www.ststephensce.lbhf.sch.uk/parent-information/uniform/
Please be aware that in Years 1- 6 we operate what we call a soft start to the day, which means that the children may enter the school from 8.45am onwards and make their own way to their classrooms, but must be in the classroom for 8.55am prompt so that teachers can complete the morning register and children are ready for their learning from 9am.
I have attached some important Dates for the Diary for the school year, but please remember more dates will be added as the term goes on and more information, regarding events, will come via ParentMail/ FOSS. Please note we are still waiting confirmation of the Y2-Y6 Sports Day.
FOSS Welcome Drinks
Tuesday 12 September at 7pm is the FOSS Welcome Drinks: please come to have a drink on us, mingle with fellow parents and also hear about FOSS plans for this year. Even if you have been before, please come along as we have a lots (promise we won’t talk for too long) to tell you. We have all the event leaders in place, so you can rest easy and sip your wine and share ideas!
Family Supper
One of my favourite events of the year is the Family Supper where parents bring a favourite dish and we all share in a feast of magnificent cuisine from the countries and cultures which make up our school community. It’s a great opportunity to meet new parents and for the children to run around the playground in the dark! Think Lord of the Flies with delicious food and a glass of wine!
This year’s Family Supper is on Thursday, 28th September at 6pm in the main hall and playground. We will be running a cash bar and when you see the array of delicious dishes, your mouth will be watering! In line with the school’s new Eco Code, please minimise plastic wrapped food.
Please do remember that we are a Nut and Seed-free school, and need any dishes labelled very carefully if there is any chance that they may contain nuts or seeds (which we would rather there wasn’t) as we have a number of children with allergies.
