Good afternoon,

 

Happy New Year – and that’s the last one! A rather short and a rather chilly round up for the start of 2024. I hope the New Year has started well for everyone and those resolutions are holding up – I remembered too late and had already opened the box of chocolates! Well there’s always next year or Lent! As usual, a jam packed term awaits – though admittedly, rather a short term this time. FOSS have a selection of events planned for us all to enjoy.

 

Diversity And Inclusion Group meeting

 

Following the successful completion of our Autumn Term targets (planning, resourcing and delivering an informative and entertaining Black Voices Week celebrating Black British female achievement / refreshing our school Google Calendar with a range of religious and cultural events significant to the St Stephen’s community), on Thursday 18th January 2024, the Diversity and Inclusion Group (DAIG) met up to discuss their plans of action for the Spring Term. A very productive discussion was had, with a particular focus on planning out a year’s worth of half termly themed lunches to celebrate religious and cultural events significant to the St Stephen’s community. A huge ‘thank you’ to all of those who participated in this meeting; your efforts are greatly appreciated.

 

Reception at the Ecology Centre

 

Reception braved the cold weather on their trip to Holland Park Ecology Centre this week. The children learnt about the different seasons and the changes they might see in the park throughout the year. They searched the park for signs of winter and built nests for animals to help them stay warm. Then it was time to eat their packed lunches and play on the adventure playground.

 

Children’s Prayer Group Meeting

 

In Prayer Group today, we reminded ourselves of our year group spiritual words – JOY, LOVE, FAITH, WISDOM, TRUST, PEACE and HOPE. We split into groups and looked at how sometimes it can be a challenge to keep these words in our thoughts as we face challenges including getting a little annoyed in the playground (peace), worrying about getting into a secondary school (hope) and finding work tricky sometimes (wisdom). There were lots of thoughtful examples for each word. We wrapped up their time with individuals praying for those challenges they had discussed in their groups.

 

QPR Tournament

 

QPR hosted one of the preliminary rounds of the EFL Kids Cup today, where this year’s football squad were aiming to do better than last year’s. The six-a-side team won the first game 2-0 as well as the second one, against a big, aggressive team, 3-1 to go top of the group with two to play. Following a draw, the last match – a 3-1 victory – made sure St Stephen’s topped the table to go through to the knockouts. After an ill-timed lunch break, they faced local rivals; The Good Shepherd, who were just too good for them beating the boys 2-0. Heads were held very high though on the way home safe in the knowledge that improvement had been made. Well done to: Y6s Izunna, Filip, Ethan, Lars, Daniel, Armani and Marlon, as well as Dom and Jack from Y5.

 

Breakfast Club- Important Notice

 

Please be aware that Breakfast Club runs from 7.30am. The breakfast meal was previously served up to 8.30am but now, due to the high number of attendees (over 35 children on some days), we have had to stop serving food at 8.20am to allow sufficient time for staff to pack up, clear away and move children back to their different locations around the school.

 

 

We have had quite a few occasions when parents have dropped children as late as 8.25am, saying that the children have not had breakfast. I am sure you will appreciate that it is not possible to serve children so late in the allocated time. Going forward, staff will not be serving food at

Breakfast Club after 8.20am.

 

Meanwhile, we are still offering the delicious buttered bagels at the school gate from 8.45am most mornings (dependent on delivery and Mr Schumm’s buttering skills)!
