Library News: World Book Day & ‘Mothering Sunday’
This week in the Library we are reading stories about mothers in honour of Mothering Sunday on 10th March. We are also looking forward World Book Day of Thursday 7th March.
To celebrate this highlight of the school calendar we have arranged dressing up, a book sale, a sponsored read, storytelling and classroom bookish activities. The theme for this year is ‘Friendship’.
On Thursday 7th March children can come to school ideally dressed as a book character that demonstrates friendship. It could be The Midnight Gang, The Famous Five, Winnie the Poo, Lost and Found or Pip and Posy. Alternatively the children could find a friend and dress up as a double act together!! Children will take to the catwalk in the usual St Stephen’s style for a morning parade! They will then return to their classrooms for a variety of book related activities planned by their class teachers.
Help fund books for the Library with Winkworth’s Pictures for Books scheme: For every child’s picture of their World Book Day character handed to Winkworth’s Uxbridge Road office the library will get £5 for books. How it works: we will be putting sheets for your child’s picture of their character in school bags tomorrow. Please encourage your child to draw a picture of their World Book Day character and then hand it into Winkworth’s offices on the Uxbridge Road. Where your child will be given a voucher for the school (and a sweet!). For every voucher handed to the school office, the library will get £5. So please help your library, perhaps this could be an activity for half term..? All pictures to be handed in by Saturday 2nd March. Any questions email pta.foss@gmail.com.
Daunt Books will be holding a book sale at our school on 7th March and as always 20% of the proceeds will come back to the school to replenish old Library stock. There will be an opportunity for every class to visit the book sale and their £1 World Book Day token can be used as spending money.
Finally, children will be invited to participate in a sponsored read on week beginning 4th March. 60% of the money raised will be donated to the school in the form of Usborne Books by Quackquack Books. This is another great opportunity to keep our school Library replenished! More information to come…
