A Friday Night Round Up!
Good afternoon,
It’s beginning to feel a lot like …………stop I hear you say but the St Stephen’s Christmas train is steaming on down the line as the weeks go rolling by! Such a poetic start to a round up even though I say so myself.
First some dates/ reminders (more info from class teachers to follow)
- 5th December – Reception Nativity – St Stephen’s Church at 2pm
- 12th December – Year 1 and 2 Nativity in the school hall at 9.30am and 2pm
- 12th December – St Stephen’s Drinks Party 7.30pm (adults only)
- 13th December – Christmas Lunch and Christmas Jumper
- 19th December – Carols by Candlelight, Years 3-6, at St Stephen’s Church at 6pm (Years 3-6 need to be back to school for 5.45 in full winter uniform please)
- 20th December – Christmas Whole School Service at St Stephen’s Church at 9am
The weather is looking good for tomorrow so make sure you head to the Christmas Fair to end all Christmas fairs. As I type, I am surrounded by bottles, sweets and prices! The raffle is looking fab-u-lous so treat yourself – you have to be in it, to win it! The stage is in the playground and the acts are waiting in the wings, so treat yourself to a mulled wine and come and watch the show.
Our two Year 4 classes have done us proud with their amazing assemblies!
Mr Faith was first off the runway with a truly Christmas extravaganza complete with some smashing jumpers! They sang and acted up a storm!
They were swiftly followed by Mrs Walsh’s class who were electrifying! They taught us all about electricity and renewable energy. Our brains were bursting with facts but there was even more to come as they hit us with a rendition of ‘Grease Lightning’ that got us dancing in the isles. Fantastic!
Year 3 and 5 at Gunnersbury Park
Year 3 went to Gunnersbury Park and Museum for a brilliant Stone Age workshop. After a recap on the different periods of the Stone Age, the children were shown actual stone axes and flint from the Mesolithic time. After time in the ‘classroom’, the workshop moved outside where the children were given ‘spears’ to throw at a wild boar before making shelters out of sticks, branches and animal skins. Finally, everyone had a go at making some ‘daub’ to fill the gaps of some wattle gates.
Two weeks ago, Year 5 visited Gunnersbury Park and Museum and took part in a Victorian Classroom Workshop. They learnt about the Victorians last term so this was a great opportunity for them to reflect on their learning and build upon their understanding. It was daunting at times and they all agreed that St. Stephen’s is much better off with the rules they have for children compared with the rules children had to follow during the Victorian Era.
School Council go to Parliament
Last week was UK Parliament Week. To mark this occasion, the School Council visited the Houses of Parliament. During their trip, they visited Westminster Hall, the House of Commons and the House of Lords. They were lucky enough to have a Q&A session with our local MP for Hammersmith and Chiswick, Andy Slaughter. Today, the School Council shared their learning with the rest of the school. They emphasised the importance of voting when you turn 18 in order to make sure the views of the younger generation are represented in the Houses of Parliament.
He’s Behind You!
Year 6 enjoyed a theatre trip to the Lyric for their Christmas pantomime Aladdin! The children were perfect St Stephen’s role models and had a super time. Mr Gane and Mr Perry were sad not to be chosen to go on stage, but there’s always next year!
St Stephen’s Got Talent
A massive thank you to the group of parents who took to the stage last week and a hearty congratulations to the winners Jenny and Ruth. It is a rather nerve wracking experience to perform in front of over 200 people but they did it! And with such gusto and panache!
A final thank you to Amelia, Mum of Sonny and Atticus, who did the most spectacular job of organising the event and calling in quite a few favours! It was a very special evening and all efforts to make it so are much appreciated.

Absences
Tis the season for a cough and a runny nose – we won’t even mention sick bugs! Please remember 48 hrs for vomiting episodes and to use Parentmail app to let us know if your child will be absent.
Athletics Squad
Well done to our Year 5/6 Athletics Squad which came 1st in the group stages and 2nd overall in the borough! An awesome effort all round.
Year 1 at the Transport Museum
Year 1 really enjoyed a class trips to the London Transport Museum in Covent Garden. They took part in a session called Joe’s Busy Bus which took them on a time travelling adventure through the Museum’s galleries with Joe – the first black bus driver in London. They were told all about the different vehicles that kept London moving and about the different jobs in transport both past and present. They had a good look around the Museum exhibits and even had time for a play in the All Aboard area. Thank you to all our amazing parents and carers who came along to help out – we couldn’t have done it without you!
Wreath Making
Thank you to all those parents who came along and made a wreath and enjoyed a glass of prosecco! Two amazing evenings of greenery – the upstairs hall smells lovely! A special thank you to Louise Corser, mum of Charlotte in Year 2, for being in charge and running the two evenings. Same time next year?!
The Great St Stephen’s Drinks Party (Parents/Carers only)
Please join us on Thursday 12th December from 7.30pm onwards. This event is organised by the school and is an opportunity for us to say thank you for being such amazing parents. This is the perfect community event where you won’t have to be in charge of a stall, make a cake or buy a raffle ticket! It’s all about the festive cheer, Christmas music, a bar and delicious nibbles! Please reserve a place via Parentmail.
