A Friday Night Round Up from Mr Schumm

Good afternoon,

What a busy few weeks! And today we had the scrumptious Eritrean/ Ethiopian lunch prepared by Jessie, her team and lots of parent helpers. The decorations were up and the food was flowing! Thank you to all those parents who helped or just joined us for a lovely lunch. A special shout out to our Ethiopian and Eritrean staff members who have raised our understanding of this part of the world and its cultures and traditions. We loved the special display of Ethiopian and Eritrean clothes and artefacts.

Thank you to those parents/ carers who joined us for the KS1 Maths/ Reading meeting, run by the KS1 team and Mrs Pereira, this week. As always it is great for school and home to work together.

On Wednesday the Year 6 children, who had decided they would like to try out for House Captain, stood in front of the various houses and delivered their presentations on why they would make a good House Captain, what they can offer their House and what charity they would like to support. They were amazing and so many of them well and truly went for it! It always makes me incredibly proud to watch your fantastic children pushing themselves out of their comfort zone and enjoying a spot of public speaking. Well done to them all, the four houses have voted and our new House Captains 2024/25 have been elected.

Crummell – Lotte, Wilf, Isla, Mercy

Wesley – Ella H, Mathilda, Ella PF, Sam

Aylward – Annie, Millie Jo, Amber, Jack

Liddell – Kitty, Ben, Evelyn, Aniela

Hot on the heels came Mr Blair with his Sport’s Captains who will be supporting Mr Blair at different events and even delivering the occasional PE lesson under his guidance! Here are this year’s team:

Beatrix, Zara, Soli, Viv, Miffy

JJ, Camarie, Tian, Georgie, Jonah

Year 4 at Delina

To celebrate Ethiopian and Eritrean New Year, otherwise known as Enkutatash, the Year 4s were invited to Delina in Shepherd’s Bush Market. They created beautiful tealight holders shaped like Adey Abeba flowers, which are traditionally used as part of the celebrations, from clay and lots of yellow paint. A big thank you to Nazareth and her team, who organised the events.

Family Supper

One of my favourite events of the year is the Family Supper where parents bring a favourite dish and we all share in a feast of magnificent cuisine from the countries and cultures, which make up our school community. It’s a great opportunity to meet new parents and for the children to run around the playground in the dark! Think Lord of the Flies with delicious food and a glass of wine!

This year’s Family Supper is on Thursday, 26th September at 6pm in the main hall and playground. FOSS will be running a bar and when you see the array of delicious dishes, your mouth will be watering! In line with the school’s new Eco Code, please minimise plastic wrapped food.

Please do remember that we are a Nut and Seed-free school, and need any dishes labelled very carefully if there is any chance that they may contain nuts or seeds (which we would rather there wasn’t) as we have a number of children with allergies.

Harvest Festival – a word from Mr Perry

I just wanted to share a few thoughts regarding the upcoming Harvest Festival Service on Wednesday 2nd October. This will be at St. Stephen’s Church at 9am and all parents / carers are welcome to join us at our celebration.

All harvest gifts will be donated to the Upper Room charity that has close links with our church St Stephen’s and the wider community. We welcome and will gratefully receive any donations. Please see the attached list on what would be an appropriate donation for the Upper Room to use. We would like to receive donations the week beginning Monday 30th September.

Coming together for our Harvest service is a wonderful way of showing and experiencing our school community and thanking God for our harvest and the food that is on our tables. It is also a wonderful chance to help support those around us who do not always have the same experiences as we do. The Upper Room are a wonderful charity that really do make a difference.

Finally, the Year 2- 6 Sports Day has now been confirmed for the date on the list sent out – 20th June at Perivale Athletics Track

Have a lovely weekend.
