A Friday Night Round Up from Mr Schumm

Good afternoon,

The last time I started a round up I was preparing for the annual school sleepover – well I survived and here we are two weeks later and the sun is shining! I spent part of this week with Year 6 at PGL enjoying lot of activities like zip wire, fencing, climbing, archery, and the list goes on, though sadly I missed out on Laser Tag! They have had a marvellous time and have made memories to last a life time.

Last night the hall was filled with smiling, chatting children enjoying Movie Night – 5 minutes watching, 5 minutes eating and 10 minutes chatting is always the order of the day! However, this is a very successful and popular fundraiser event for the school and we thank you for all the tickets bought.

Quiz Night

A massive thank you to Mark, Justine and Louise for organising such a superb quiz night – I even got to sneak out until I was caught red handed in the Bush Theatre Bar – you had to be there! Mark’s quiz master skills were spectacular and the evening ran as smooth as clockwork – did I mention that the teacher’s table won?

Wellbeing and Mental Health

We celebrated World Mental Health Day on 10 October, launched our first ever Wellbeing and Mental Health newsletter (please see the website) and raised £545 for the YoungMinds charity wearing our brightest yellow clothing. Thank you for finding those yellow items and contributing so generously.

Show Racism the Red Card

Today the school was awash with red as our school stood together against racism. In assembly we celebrated all our differences and why they make us special. The children’s answers to questions acknowledged their understanding of why we must stand firm against racism, why we should celebrate our differences and how we need to educate people – ‘ Education is the most powerful weapon, which you can use to change the world’ Nelson Mandela.

The School Choir

Last Friday our school choir was honoured to be invited to open the London Diocesan Board for Schools conference on Wellbeing. We sang to hymns and then launched into a spot of Matilda – you can’t beat it! They sang magnificently and the audiences were soon smiling and I think we can safely say we added to their wellbeing that day!

Tag Rugby in House Competitions

Mr Blair has been organising same amazing Tag Rugby House Competitions at the Powerleague pitches but you will have to wait for his newsletter to find out more.

Black Voices Week

Following our participation in this weeks ‘Great Big Live Assembly: Black History Month’, we will be holding our annual Black Voices Week next week, between Monday 21st and Friday 25th October.

This year, we are focusing on ‘Reclaiming Narratives,’ with a view to continuing to make significant shifts towards recognising and correcting the narratives of Black history and culture. By emphasising this theme, we will shine a brighter light on stories, allegories, and histories that underscore our commitment to correcting historical inaccuracies and showcasing the untold success stories and the full complexity of Black heritage.

The children will also all have the opportunity to watch an assembly on ‘hidden figures’, followed by related workshops for Years 5 and 6.

If you would like to come in to school during this week to read a story or share an experience, please contact your child’s class teacher to arrange a date / time. We are also keen on people sharing photos / videos of their hidden figures – those who have had a profound impact on them and their family, but may not have always been recognised in doing this.

If you have any further queries, please don’t hesitate to contact me at l.faith@ststephensce.lbhf.sch.uk.

Have an excellent weekend everyone.
